What Do We Do?For more than 30 years, the Virginia Production Alliance has provided opportunity for Virginia’s film and television community. We sponsor professional development and networking events for filmmaking professionals and we are committed to providing assistance to those working to establish professional film-related careers and businesses. We are also the leading advocate for Virginia’s production community, interacting with state lawmakers to help pass legislation to strengthen the filmmaking in our state. The VPA serves the industry in several ways: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: The Alliance sponsors educational events such as panel discussion, classes, workshops and lectures by industry professionals. NETWORKING: Attend a VPA networking event and keep informed about the industry and meet old and new friends. ADVOCACY: The VPA is the voice of the industry in the Virginia General Assembly. We work with lawmakers to create new initiatives that will benefit the film, television and video game industry. The VPA is instrumental in passing tax credit and grant legislation, as well as a sales and use tax exemption for filmmakers. OUTREACH: VPA members work to give back to their community. Outreach initiatives include working with recently graduated film students, sponsoring an annual trade event and providing opportunities for project development. COMMUNICATIONS: As a central clearinghouse for information, the VPA maintains several communications tools for the industry including the VPA Listserv, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and a YouTube Screening Room.
First and foremost, I want to thank the members of Virginia Production Alliance for allowing me to serve as President and to express how honored I am to be a part of an organization that champions the cause of media and film professionals, but allows friendships to be created within the industry. As a serving general member for 13 years and now head of the State Board, I follow in the footsteps of many great leaders, who have been advocates, creatives, and enthusiasts. I intend to keep that tradition going as well as establish some new traditions. Three decades of impact is a great foundation! And, since it’s creation, the VPA has stood as a leader across the Commonwealth. Our members are motivated individuals who believed that Virginia is more than just the birthplace of our nation, but the birth place of ideas! Our goal is to make it a mecca for film and media professionals. During my tenure, the VPA State and District Boards and I will continue to support lobbying efforts that promote film, media, and industry-adjacent jobs. We will also support those media-adjacent small businesses which are the foundation our healthy media ecosystem! We will continue our work to expand member- driven programming, establish more networking opportunities and establish partnerships with other industry-focused events and organizations. Both myself and the VPA district boards are excited about the opportunities that await our membership! With your support, we can build a stronger, more supportive film and media community. Together our voices will make a difference.
